How do we connect to the Simulator?

Companies can connect to the Simulator in a number of ways:

  • Via The Internet

1.FTP [preferred]
2. Secure FTP
3. Email
4. Manual FTP
5. Via Direct Connection

  • Telephone Dial up on demand

1. Leased Line
2. ISDN

Once a company has established a link to Safe Financials, transaction files that are normally dropped within a CREST gateway [Syntegra or Swift] are instead placed in a directory ready for export to the Simulator via one of the above connection methods.

Does this mean Safe Financials will need access to our Corporate Network?

No, Safe Financials Limited fully appreciate your security concerns.

At all times the process is client driven. By using FTP scripts or alternate protocol methods, files are pushed into the Simulator and the generated responses retrieved. These control mechanisms can either be supplied by SFL [free of charge] or written by yourselves in-house.

Alternatively, some back office systems have inbuilt functionality to communicate with an FTP location.

Who maintains the Simulator?

The Simulator is maintained and operated by Safe Financials Ltd at our head office in Burton-on-Trent.

Do I need to book slots?

No, The CREST Simulator like CREST is a live environment which you are permanently connected to. It has been designed to suit your testing and training requirements and is available when required.

Do I need training?

No, the Simulator acts exactly the same way as the CREST live environment. In fact, you don't actually use the Simulator directly, you continue to use your back office system which in turn communicates with the Simulator, in the same way as it would communicate with CREST.

When can I use the Simulator?

The Simulator is open from 5:30am to 8:30pm, Monday to Friday. However, these times are flexible and can be extended to suit your testing requirements

Does it support multiple operator?

Yes, your existing operator structure can be used with the CREST Simulator

Is multi currency supported?

Yes, the standard CREST currencies of GBP, USD and EUR are supported.

How will my trades be matched?

Trades can be alleged against special auto match participants, who will match the trades immediately. Alternately trades can be matched manually by SFL or you can allege/match trades against any other participant within your testing pool, including those operated by yourself.

Will my system be compatible with the CREST Simulator?

Yes, your system will communicate with the CREST Simulator in the same way as it communicates with the CREST live system.

Does the Simulator support full DvP [Delivery Vs Payment]?

Yes, standard CREST settlement rules apply. Transactions will not settle if relevant stock and cash is not available.

Does the Simulator retain my member account stock balances?

Yes, your account balances are held in the Simulator in the same format as they are held in CREST.

Can I do T3 settlement?

Yes, the Simulator will even process T0 settlement for all transaction types.

Do you support CCP [Central Counter Party]?

Yes, CCP trades can be simulated by alleging a trade against a valid CCP, such as LCH01.

How realistic is the Simulator?

The Simulator aims to be 100% DEX compatible for the companies who use it.

Although we attempt to match CREST response times, we will normally return response files in less than five minutes.
